Type 2, CCS2, NACS, GB/T — the terms that confuse every new Gulf EV owner. Here's exactly which cable you need for home + public charging, and whether you need an adapter (especially for imports).
The four (+1) standards you should know
Gulf standard: CCS2 for DC fast charging, Type 2 for AC.
Gulf standard
Type 2AC
The Gulf AC standard — home + destination charging
The Type 2 plug (a.k.a. Mennekes) is the official AC standard across Kuwait and the GCC. It's what you use on a home wallbox and on most mall/destination chargers. Typical speed is 7–22 kW depending on the charger and the car's onboard AC limit.

7–22 kW (limited by the car's onboard charger)
Gulf standard
CCS2AC+DC
The Gulf DC fast-charging standard — rapid stations
CCS2 (Combined Charging System 2) is the Gulf's official DC fast-charging standard. The plug is a Type 2 head with two big DC pins below, so it handles both AC and DC from one port. Every fast charger in Kuwait — EnerTech, Tesla Supercharger, KCC, Oula — uses CCS2.

Gulf Teslas use it — Superchargers are CCS2 here

NACS (Tesla US)AC+DC
US Tesla plug — needs an adapter in the Gulf
NACS (formerly the Tesla connector) is what arrives on US-imported Teslas. One small plug does both AC and DC. The catch: it does not directly fit Gulf chargers (CCS2/Type 2), so you'll need a NACS→CCS2 adapter for DC fast charging and a NACS→Type 2 adapter for home/mall AC.

GB/TAC+DC
The China-market standard — verify before importing
GB/T is China's official charging standard (two separate ports: one AC, one DC). Cars sold officially in the Gulf are CCS2/Type 2, but if you import directly from the Chinese domestic market the car may have GB/T ports. The big problem: GB/T→CCS2 DC adapters are rare, unreliable, and often uncertified. Verify the port type before buying any China-import EV.

CHAdeMODC
Legacy / rare — older Nissan Leaf, scarce in the Gulf
CHAdeMO is an older Japanese DC fast standard used by early models like the first-gen Nissan Leaf. In the Gulf it's very rare and barely supported on new stations. If you own a CHAdeMO car, confirm a compatible plug exists before relying on public DC.

Wallbox or a regular plug in your garage
What you bring
Type 2 cable (the top of the CCS2 port)
A CCS2 port accepts a normal Type 2 cable for home AC — no adapter.
Public AC (Type 2)
Mall / destination chargers — Type 2
What you bring
Portable Type 2 cable
Same as above — bring a Type 2 cable for mall chargers.
Public DC fast (CCS2)
Fast stations — EnerTech, Tesla, KCC, Oula
What you bring
The station's attached CCS2 cable
Best case — plug the station's CCS2 cable straight in. No adapter, full speed.
Frequently asked
The questions every new owner asks.
What's the difference between Type 2 and CCS2?+
Type 2 is for slow AC charging — home and malls. CCS2 is the same Type 2 plug with two extra big DC pins added for fast charging. A CCS2 port on your car accepts both: a Type 2 cable for AC and a CCS2 cable for DC.
I have a US Tesla — do I need an adapter?+
Yes. A US Tesla has a NACS port. You need a NACS→CCS2 adapter for DC fast charging and a NACS→Type 2 adapter for home/malls. Buy the genuine Tesla adapter or a certified one — avoid cheap units in Kuwait's heat.
I keep hearing about GB/T — is it a problem?+
GB/T is the China domestic port. Chinese cars sold officially in the Gulf are CCS2/Type 2, so no problem there. The issue is only with direct China imports: a GB/T→CCS2 fast-charging adapter is rare and unreliable. Check the physical port shape before buying an imported car.
Do I need to carry a cable for malls?+
Usually yes. Most mall/destination AC (Type 2) chargers are untethered, so you carry your own Type 2 cable. Fast DC (CCS2) stations have their cable attached to the unit.
Does an adapter slow down charging?+
A good certified adapter doesn't noticeably reduce speed. A cheap one heats up and throttles current or drops the session — especially in Kuwait's heat. Quality here isn't a luxury.
This is general guidance based on Gulf standards (CCS2/Type 2). Details vary by model, year, and where the car is from — always confirm with your dealer or owner's manual before buying any adapter.
